Eyeliner
The birds are chirping, the temperatures are rising, and we’re seeing a lot more sunshine than months past. Yep, it’s officially spring—and we couldn’t be more thrilled! Along with switching out your wardrobe (floral dresses and open-toe shoes, FTW!), you may also want to swap out some of your makeup products for some lighter and brighter shades in time for summer.
And what better way to do that than by incorporating a white-hot hue into your makeup repertoire this season? If the first month of spring has been any indicator, then it’s clear that this season, white is the new black, in terms of eyeliner, that is—and we have to admit, we wish we’d gotten in on the gorgeous look a lot sooner. White makeup can look totally chic, so it’s not surprising that this color is in this year.
As much as the color black serves as a cornerstone in everything from our closets to our cosmetics, the warmer weather is the perfect opportunity to brighten things up with a pop of white around the eyes. To learn how to rock this light look, below we share our favorite ways to line your eyes with a white eyeliner pencil.
1. WHITE CAT EYE
Just because you’re changing up your colors means you have to set your favorite style aside. A traditional cat eye looks especially eye-opening when created with a white eyeliner pencil because it can help brighten the look of your eyes. To create a white version of the cat eye classic, line your upper lid with your white eyeliner pencil and flick the liner outward at the corner of your eye. If you have hooded eyes, be sure to draw your cat eye on when your eyes are open. This can help ensure your eye makeup doesn’t disappear in the hidden crease of your eye. If you’re a winged eyeliner newbie, no worries—you can still get in on the fashion-forward fun. All you have to do is grab a piece of tape and angle it up at the outer corner of your eye to trace along. Easy, peasy!
2. DOUBLED LINER
If you’re not quite ready to say goodbye to your trusty black eyeliner, don’t! Instead, draw your normal dark line and top it off with a line of white eyeliner pencil overtop. Use the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Never Fail Eyeliner in Carbon Black. Double the colors, double the style—we can dig it!
3. RETRO STATEMENT EYE
Embrace ‘60s vibes with a little black and white action. To get the look, create a wing tip on your top lid and pair it with a white wing on the bottom with the flick going towards your nose at the inner corner of your eyes. Just think of it as the makeup ying to your style yang!
4. WHITE INNER CORNERS
For a little highlighting action, trace the inner V of your eye with a thin line of white eyeliner pencil. It’s a super-understated look that’s perfect for the everyday. 5. WHITE WATERLINE
One of the easiest ways to help make your eyes look brighter is to tightline your waterline with a thin line of white eyeliner pencil.
6. BRIGHT WHITE UNDER-EYES
While you still have your white eyeliner pencil handy, draw a slightly thicker line under your eye. Then, use a blending brush to blend the liner into an almost shadow-like appearance for a super soft brightening effect perfect for spring and summer.
