of Waxing

Waxing is one of the top ways to get rid of massive amounts of body hair. Nowadays many people are opting for a more natural or even a rainbow look, but waxing is still a lucrative industry. Inc reported that around 300,000 waxing and salon business racked in $11 billion in 2014.

Are you the type of person who would get a wax though? The practice comes with pros and cons and you have to weigh the benefits and disadvantages before going in for your first time.

Pros Of Waxing 

Maybe waxing is right for you though. The European Wax Center lists the following as benefits of getting a bikini wax: minimal allergic reactions and improved skin health since waxing removes dead skin cells. From a productivity perspective, waxing is better than shaving and lasts longer, since you’re removing the hair from the root instead of just cutting it short. The hair also grows back in finer than shaving.

The process also allows you to avoid one of the most dreaded parts of shaving: razor burn. This is especially nice on your more sensitive areas.

It’s also a much quicker process than shaving. Think about all the time you put in shaving your leg when you can just tear all the hair off at once. Maybe it’s worth the money for the convenience.

Cons Of Waxing  

There’s one obvious downside to getting any area waxed: it hurts. Depending on the area, it can hurt a lot.

It’s possible to become accustomed to the pain, but you’ll always feel the hairs being pulled out by the strip. Luckily, there are ways to dampen the pain. Women’s Health mentions six methods to make the wax hurt less, including staying hydrated and asking for an all-natural wax.

Waxing can also be pricey, ranging anywhere between $35-$120 (depending on the salon you go to and how much hair you’re getting removed). This can become even pricier since waxing is a repetitive routine for some and waxers typically recommend you revisit them. According to Alexandra Gekas from Women’s Health, you should get a wax about once a month or less, depending on your own growth cycle and how often you want to keep the area smooth.

Finally, despite what European Wax Center says, it might not be the best for your skin. By ripping the hair out, you’re doing damage to your skin, including the hair bulb and your pores. Bikini waxes can be especially risky because removing hair can leave the area open to infection. The hair is there for a reason.

So … To Wax Or Not To Wax?  

Waxing definitely has its advantages. While painful, waxing can help to exfoliate your private areas and soften the area. Despite these benefits, some might not be able to tolerate the pain — which is totally understandable. It might also damage the area and irritate the skin.

Just think about your needs before deciding on a wax. You never know until you try if it’s right for you.
